Therapy for moms in Denver

My Denver Therapy provides therapy for moms at four offices across the Denver metro and online anywhere in Colorado.

Motherhood is a mental health event

Becoming a mother rewires your brain, floods your body with hormonal change, and rearranges every relationship you have. Researchers call this transition matrescence, and it deserves the same clinical attention we give adolescence. Instead, most moms get a six-week medical checkup and then silence.

The struggle rarely announces itself as depression. It shows up as a short fuse at 5 p.m. Dread when the monitor crackles. Resentment toward a partner who sleeps through the night. The flat feeling of going through the motions in a life you worked hard to build.

You can love your kids completely and still feel like motherhood is swallowing you. Both things are true for most of the moms who sit down with us.

As one of the state’s largest woman-owned practices, our team of more than 20 therapists includes perinatal-trained clinicians and a team of women who specialize in trauma, anxiety, and burnout. Most new clients meet their therapist within a week. If motherhood has left you depleted, resentful, or unsure who you are anymore, that is exactly what we treat.

What our therapists help moms work through

Every mom’s breaking point looks different. These are the concerns that bring mothers to our offices most often:

  • Feeling touched out and overstimulated. Hours of constant contact and noise push your nervous system past what it can process.
  • Mom rage. Explosive anger followed by crushing guilt is one of the most common and least discussed experiences in motherhood.
  • Mom burnout. Exhaustion that sleep doesn’t fix, emotional numbness, and fantasies of driving past your own exit.
  • Postpartum depression and anxiety. Including intrusive thoughts and the high-functioning anxiety that hides behind “I’m fine.”
  • The mental load. Carrying every appointment, meal, and emotional need in your head, and the resentment that builds when nobody notices you’re doing it.
  • Identity loss. Grieving the person you were before kids while figuring out who you are now.
  • Fertility struggles, pregnancy, and loss. Supported by our infertility counseling and infant and child loss specialists.

If you ever have thoughts of harming yourself or your children, call or text 988, or call Colorado Crisis Services at 1-844-493-8255. Those thoughts are a symptom that responds to immediate care, and treatment works.

How therapy for moms works at My Denver Therapy

You will not spend a year talking in circles. After a free consultation, we match you with a therapist suited to what you’re carrying, and you begin with a plan.

Our clinicians draw on evidence-based approaches proven to help mothers: EMDR for birth experiences and older wounds that motherhood reopened, Internal Family Systems for the inner critic narrating your parenting, somatic therapy for a nervous system stuck in overdrive, and Gottman Method or EFT couples work when the strain lives inside your marriage.

We also have a psychiatric nurse practitioner on staff. If medication becomes part of the conversation, you can have it here, with a team that already knows your story.

Sessions happen in person at our Denver, Greenwood Village, Lone Tree, and Arvada offices, or online anywhere in Colorado. Plenty of moms take their session from a parked car during naptime. That counts.

Why Denver moms choose My Denver Therapy

We are one of Colorado’s largest woman-owned therapy practices: 20+ therapists, four metro offices, and more than 100 years of collective clinical experience. Our team includes therapists with perinatal-specific training, among them Hillary Naef, MA, LPC, and Cleopatra Denali, MA, LPCC, alongside a dozen women who specialize in trauma and EMDR.

More useful to you on a hard day: appointments are typically available within a week, consultations are free, and sliding-scale rates are available. If your first match doesn’t feel right, we’ll re-match you without any awkwardness.

Frequently asked questions

Do things need to be “bad enough” before I start therapy?

No. Waiting for a crisis is how moms end up in one. If you’ve read this far, something in your daily life already feels heavier than it should, and that is reason enough. Therapy works better as an early intervention than as an emergency response.

What’s the difference between therapy for moms and postpartum therapy?

Postpartum therapy focuses on the first year or two after birth, when hormonal shifts and perinatal mood disorders are most acute. Therapy for moms covers the whole arc, from new motherhood through teenagers, including burnout, rage, identity, and marriage strain. Many moms start with postpartum support and realize the harder season came later.

Do you take insurance?

We are an out-of-network practice, and many clients use out-of-network benefits for partial reimbursement. Sliding-scale rates are available. Our insurance and fees page explains how it works, and we’ll walk you through it during your free consultation.

How soon can I actually get in?

Typically within a week. With more than 20 therapists across four offices plus statewide telehealth, we can almost always find you a time that survives contact with a family calendar.

What if I can’t name what’s wrong?

That’s common, and it isn’t a barrier. “I’m fine on paper and miserable anyway” is a complete reason to start. Your therapist’s job is to help you find the words.

Healing may not be so much about getting better, as about letting go of everything that isn’t you – all of the expectations, all of the beliefs – and becoming who you are.
