Pregnancy Loss & Miscarriage Therapy in Denver

Miscarriage and pregnancy loss are deaths the world rarely treats as deaths — grief for a person you were already loving, carried in a body that was changing for them.

We help people who've experienced loss

My Denver Therapy provides pregnancy loss counseling with perinatal-trained therapists and grief specialists at four metro offices and online across Colorado.

Because we know this type of loss doesn’t affect only mothers, we also provide support for fathers and couples, at any point after a loss: weeks, months, or years.

A level of grief with no instructions

Many times, there was no funeral. Most people never knew. The ones who did reached for comfort and found sentences that hurt. They say things like “At least it was early, “You can still try again,” and “Everything happens for a reason.”

Meanwhile your body kept its own schedule, the nursery folder stayed in your bookmarks, and a due date sits on the calendar like a landmine. You may be grieving hard for a pregnancy you’d known about for three weeks, and doubting your own grief because of the math. Attachment doesn’t follow the math. It never has.

What pregnancy loss therapy holds

  • The grief itself — real mourning, on your timeline, for a loss the culture disenfranchises.
  • The body’s part — when the medical experience was its own trauma: the scan that went silent, the ER, the D&C, delivery of a baby who had died. EMDR can take the intrusive moments out of replay so the grief can proceed without ambush.
  • Guilt that isn’t yours — the relentless self-audit of what you ate, lifted, felt, or missed. Loss this common has causes, and you are almost never one of them; believing that takes more than being told.
  • The marriage — partners grieve on different clocks and in different dialects, and the gap can feel like abandonment in both directions. We see couples together when that helps.
  • What comes next — the fear tangled into trying again, and pregnancy after loss, where every twinge is a referendum. If conception itself has been the battle, our infertility counseling sits alongside this work.

Fathers and partners grieve too

Partners often get handed the logistics and the question “how is she doing?” — as if the loss belonged to one person.

Grief that gets no acknowledgment goes underground, usually as overwork, distance, or a temper that seems unrelated. Our therapists, including the team behind our work with dads, see partners individually and together.

When to reach out

There is no deadline that makes grief overdue and no minimum that makes it premature.

Come if the loss is fresh and you can’t find the floor. Come if it was years ago and a friend’s pregnancy announcement just leveled you. Come before a rainbow pregnancy you’re too scared to enjoy.

If at any point you have thoughts of harming yourself, call or text 988 now — postpartum and post-loss hormones can take grief somewhere that needs immediate care, and that care works.

Why families choose our practice

Our perinatal-trained therapists — including Hillary Naef, MA, LPC, and Cleopatra Denali, MA, LPCC — work the full arc from conception through postpartum, our grief specialists treat loss as their core work, and EMDR-certified clinicians handle the traumatic edges.

One practice can hold your individual grief, your partner’s, and the couple work, without anyone retelling the story to a stranger. Telehealth matters here too: some seasons, getting dressed for an office is too much, and that’s allowed.

Frequently asked questions

Is it normal to grieve this much for an early loss?

Yes. Grief tracks attachment, not gestational age. You lost a child you were already imagining; the timeline doesn’t discount that.

My partner seems fine. Why does that hurt so much?

Different grieving styles read as indifference from inside acute grief. Usually both people are drowning in different ways; naming the styles, sometimes in a session together, takes the insult out of the difference.

When is it okay to try again?

Medically, that’s your doctor’s question. Emotionally, there’s no universal answer — therapy helps you tell the difference between readiness and the hope that a new pregnancy will mute an unfinished grief.

It’s been two years. Is it too late for this to help?

No. Disenfranchised grief keeps, often resurfacing at due dates, anniversaries, and other people’s announcements. It responds to being treated as real grief whenever that finally happens.

White close quotation mark

Healing may not be so much about getting better, as about letting go of everything that isn’t you – all of the expectations, all of the beliefs – and becoming who you are.
