LGBTQ+ Affirming Therapy in Denver

Supporting members of the community and their families

Identity-affirming LGBTQ+ friendly, inclusive counseling

At My Denver Therapy, our inclusive therapists provide identity-affirming therapy services for members of the LGBTQ+ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Questioning) community and their families. We provide individual, couples, and family therapy and provide a safe, inclusive, non-judgmental environment for people to share who they are and whatever is happening in their lives.

Many people in the LGBTQ+ community have experienced oppression, discrimination, homophobia, and marginalization in different environments that have personally affected them, often in traumatizing ways. From navigating the coming out process to figuring out who their authentic self really is, there are multiple factors and life transitions that are unique to the LGBTQ+ community.

For years, our Denver inclusive therapists have collectively met with and supported hundreds of LGBTQ+ clients for a variety of therapy needs, including anxiety, trauma, life transitions. On a personal level, many of our therapists have family members, friends, and mentors who are part of the LGBTQ+ community. We care about supporting members of the Denver LGBTQ+ community and provide a supportive environment to help them heal, grow, and transform.

Whether you identify as LGBTQ+, or you’re navigating and defining your sexual identity in a time of change, our LGBTQ+ therapists in Denver, Lone Tree, and Greenwood Village are person-centered—this means that you can come to therapy as you are, and we’ll meet you where you’re at. You can be yourself. We’d want it no other way.

LGBTQ+ safe space for to explore your identity

Sexuality and gender are critical parts of who you are and your identity. If you’ve had challenges integrating these parts of your life who you are, it can be painful and create issues with your identity and anxiety that you might not know how to address.

If you’ve struggled with your identity, perhaps due to your religious upbringing or unsupportive family members, you are not alone. When going through this life transition, many family members may not understand this part of your identity, and you might even be familiarizing yourself with a new part of your identity.

Sexual feelings and attractions can naturally change for many people over the course of their lives. You might find that who you’re attracted to has changed or is changing. You might be struggling to figure out where you fit on the spectrum of defining your sexuality.

Even if you’re unsure about your sexuality, and just want a space to explore and figure things out, we’re here to support you and your journey.

For many people, discussing your sexual identity can feel deeply personal, and even scary to talk about. In our Denver and Lone Tree offices, we provide a safe, welcoming space for you to share what’s on your mind, who you are, and any issues you want to bring to therapy.

LGBTQ men

Are you redefining your LGBTQ+ sexual or gender identity?

If you’re questioning or exploring your gender identity, you’re not alone. Over 5% of people identity as LGBT in the United States today, and many of these people went through a journey to get to know themselves again.

Whether you’re learning or discovering how you want to express your gender or sexuality, or you identify as non-binary (enby), this can feel like a highly personal experience, especially when you’re sharing that journey with someone. We fully respect and honor that.

Having the support of an affirming therapist can be incredibly helpful as you navigate these parts of your identity to help you gain a deeper, fuller understanding of who you are.

Your identity matters to us

Whether you’re unsure of your identity or you know exactly who you are and just want to work with a therapist who gets you, our therapists will hold space for you to be you. We focus our sessions on you and what you want to achieve in therapy.

We develop personalized therapy plans that respect who you are and where you want to go, even if that’s growing where you are now. Even though many have gone through their own gender and sexual identity journeys, we believe that your story and experiences that have brought you to therapy are uniquely yours.

We also recognize that this part of your identity doesn’t define all of who you are. We can integrate all aspects of you, including your ethnicity, culture, spirituality, faith, relationship styles, and more into how we approach therapy for you.

If you want, you can also come to therapy as a member of the LGBTQ+ community and never discuss anything about your sexual or gender identity and just know that your therapist respects all of who you are as a person. We are here to support you in your journey with therapy in ways that make sense for you.

How our therapists work with and support our LGBTQ+ clients

Here’s what you can expect from us when you come in for therapy:

  • We’ll be open and non-judgmental: We don’t make assumptions about who you are and how you identify yourself. We’ll invite you to share with us, and we’ll help you explore the things that you want to work on.
  • We’ll be sensitive to your needs: We know that many members of the LGBTQ+ community have experienced oppression, homophobia, discrimination, transphobia, and more. We recognize that you might be bringing some of these experiences to therapy, and we’re here to listen and help you work through them.
  • We’ll ask questions and be honest: As therapists, we want to learn about you. We’ll ask you questions about your experiences, who you are, and your life. We want to specialize in you.
  • We’ll focus on you: If you’ve had therapy before and found that a therapist shared more about themselves than you were able to share with them, this is not what you’ll get from us. Your time is valuable, and we want to help you make progress in a safe, supportive environment where you can share what’s on your mind.
  • We’ll affirm your identity: Even if you consider yourself a work in progress, we will empower your voice and help you heal, grow, and live in an authentic way that honors all parts of your identity.

Healing may not be so much about getting better, as about letting go of everything that isn’t you – all of the expectations, all of the beliefs – and becoming who you are.

Meet our Denver therapists

My Denver Therapy is one of the largest woman-owned therapy private practices in Colorado with many of the best, most requested therapists in Denver.

As a therapist-owned practice with decades of combined experience, we care about seeing our clients heal, grow, and thrive. We’re one of the only therapy practices in Colorado with licensed professional counselors, marriage and family therapists, addiction counselors, social workers, and psychiatric nurse practitioners who actively see new clients. Whether you’re an adult, teen, young adult, couple, or family, our inclusive therapist team is built to specialize in you.

Our practice started with one therapist in a shared office suite, but we’ve grown to help thousands of people in Colorado by providing in-person therapy at our conveniently located Denver Metro area counseling offices in Denver, Greenwood Village, and Lone Tree, plus online therapy for clients throughout Colorado. Because of the way our team works, our therapists provide consultation for other therapists and private practices in the Denver Metro area.

Our inclusive therapists provide some of the most innovative, effective, and in-demand forms of therapy available today, including EMDR, Ketamine-assisted psychotherapy, CBT, and IFS. We also have more therapists trained in Ketamine-assisted therapy and more teen therapists and young adult counselors than nearly every other private practice in Denver.

We know that clients want to find the best therapists in Denver, so our team includes therapists with different backgrounds, specialities, and experiences to help you find the right fit. We’ll match you with one of our therapists who is the best for your goals, location, budget, and schedule to help you get started quickly.

We’re out of network for insurance, Tricare, and are unable to take Medicaid, but most of our therapists’ rates are lower than the local and national averages for therapy.

All of our therapists take a client-focused approach to counseling and approach each session with  a commitment to your progress and growth.
