Therapy for Healthcare workers in Denver

My Denver Therapy provides therapy for nurses, physicians, residents, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, techs, and other healthcare professionals across the Denver metro.

We help people who work in healthcare fields

Our therapists understand shift work, moral injury, compassion fatigue, and the specific weight of carrying patient outcomes home, and we schedule around hospital calendars with early morning, evening, and telehealth sessions. Our own psychiatric nurse practitioner is part of the team.

You are good at your job. That is part of the problem. You can run a code, hold a family’s grief, and chart until midnight, and nobody at work would guess that you have not slept properly in months, that you dread the parking garage, or that you have started to feel nothing at all during moments that used to mean something. You tell yourself it is normal for the field. Some of it is. The rest is treatable.

What healthcare workers bring to therapy?

The issues we see most among clinicians and hospital staff from Swedish, Craig, UCHealth, Denver Health, Children’s, Sky Ridge, Lutheran, and the surrounding clinics and practices:

Burnout and exhaustion. Chronic understaffing, documentation load, and the gap between the care you want to give and the care the system allows. Burnout in healthcare is structural, and therapy does not fix the system, but it restores your capacity to decide what you will and will not keep absorbing.

Moral injury. Being forced to act, or prevented from acting, in ways that violate your own ethics: rationed care, futile interventions, administrative decisions that hurt patients. Moral injury produces guilt, anger, and a loss of meaning that looks like depression and does not respond to standard depression treatment alone.

Trauma and secondary trauma. Codes, deaths, violence in the ED, pediatric cases that will not leave you, and the cumulative effect of years of exposure. Our EMDR-certified and Brainspotting-trained therapists treat both direct trauma and the secondary trauma of witnessing.

Anxiety, perfectionism, and imposter feelings. Especially common among residents, new graduates, and anyone whose training taught them that errors are unforgivable.

Depression and substance use. Both are elevated in healthcare professionals and both carry career fears that keep people from seeking help. We treat them confidentially, and our clinical director holds a Licensed Addiction Counselor credential.

Relationships and family. Rotating schedules, missed holidays, and the emotional distance that comes from spending everything at work. We offer couples therapy and family therapy alongside individual work.

How we work with healthcare professionals

We respect your clinical knowledge. You do not need the basics explained. Our therapists work collaboratively and skip the parts you already know.

We schedule around your reality. Early morning, evening, and telehealth appointments fit around twelve-hour shifts, call, and rotating schedules. Online sessions are available anywhere in Colorado, including from the hospital parking lot on a break.

We treat the nervous system, not just the thoughts. Somatic therapy, EMDR, Brainspotting, and Internal Family Systems address what accumulates in the body after years of staying composed. ACT and CBT are available where they fit.

We offer medication management in the same practice. Shannon Keane, MSN, FNP-C, PMHNP-BC, provides psychiatric evaluation and medication management, which means therapy and prescribing stay coordinated. For treatment-resistant depression, we also offer ketamine-assisted psychotherapy.

We protect your privacy. We are a private-pay practice. We do not bill insurance, which means no diagnosis is submitted to a carrier. Your records stay with your therapist, within the limits of Colorado law, and we are familiar with the licensing and credentialing concerns that keep clinicians from getting care.

Why healthcare workers choose My Denver Therapy

We are a therapist-owned practice of 20+ licensed clinicians with more than 100 years of combined experience. Several of our therapists specialize in working with helping professionals, and our therapy-for-therapists program has given us years of experience with the particular guardedness of people whose job is to take care of others.

We have offices in Denver, Greenwood Village, Lone Tree, and Arvada, placing us near every major hospital corridor in the metro, and we see clients online across Colorado. New clients are usually seen within a week. We provide superbills for out-of-network reimbursement and offer sliding-scale rates for residents and others who qualify.

Frequently asked questions

Will therapy affect my medical or nursing license?
Seeking therapy on your own does not create a reporting obligation in Colorado. We are a private-pay practice, so no diagnosis is submitted to an insurer. Mandatory reporting applies only in narrow circumstances defined by law, which your therapist will explain at the first session.

Do you offer appointments that work with shift schedules?
Yes. We hold early morning and evening appointments and provide telehealth across Colorado, and we are flexible about rescheduling around call and rotations.

What is moral injury, and is it the same as burnout?
Moral injury is the distress that follows acting against, or being prevented from acting on, your own moral code. Burnout is exhaustion and depletion. They often coexist in healthcare, but moral injury carries guilt and loss of meaning that burnout treatment alone does not resolve.

Can you treat trauma from things I’ve seen at work?
Yes. Our EMDR-certified and Brainspotting-trained therapists treat direct trauma and secondary trauma from patient care, including cumulative exposure over years.

Do you offer medication management for healthcare workers?
Yes. Our psychiatric nurse practitioner provides evaluation and medication management, coordinated with your therapist.

Do you work with residents and medical students?
Yes. We offer sliding-scale rates for clients who qualify, and we understand the specific pressures of training.

If you are in crisis, call or text 988. Physicians and medical students can also reach the Physician Support Line at 1-888-409-0141.
