Online therapy in Denver
You live in Denver. You could drive to a therapist’s office. Some weeks you’d rather not, and some weeks you can’t.
Local therapists who see Denver clients online
Online therapy with My Denver Therapy means seeing a Denver therapist by video from your apartment in Cap Hill, your kitchen table in Park Hill, or your car in the parking lot at work. It’s the same therapist, the same session, and the same fee as walking into one of our offices. The only thing that changes is where you’re sitting.
We’ve been offering online therapy across Colorado since 2020, and today a large share of our Denver clients use a mix of in-person and video sessions. Our team of more than twenty licensed therapists works from offices in Denver, Greenwood Village, and Lone Tree, and every one of them sees clients online.
Why Denver clients choose online sessions
The reasons are practical more often than they’re clinical.
- Traffic. A 4:30 session in Greenwood Village means leaving downtown at 3:45. A 4:30 session online means closing your laptop at 4:29.
- Kids. Parents of young children can meet during nap time without arranging care.
- Health and mobility. Chronic illness, injury recovery, and postpartum weeks all make a commute harder than it should be.
- Privacy. Some clients, especially professionals and men coming to therapy for the first time, prefer not to sit in a waiting room.
- Consistency. Business travel within Colorado, snow days, and a sick household no longer mean a cancelled week.
None of these make the therapy itself any different. The research on video-based therapy for anxiety, depression, PTSD, and relationship distress has been consistent for over a decade: outcomes match in-person treatment when the therapist is trained and the platform is secure. Ours are both.
Everything we do in person, we do online
National platforms give you a chat window and whoever is available. We give you a Denver therapist with a specialty, and the full range of what that therapist does.
- EMDR for trauma and PTSD, using screen-based bilateral stimulation
- Internal Family Systems and parts work
- Brainspotting
- Couples therapy with EFT and the Gottman Method, including partners joining from two locations
- Anxiety, depression, and grief work with CBT, ACT, and DBT skills
- Teen therapy with parent consent
- Christian counseling
- Psychiatric medication management with our nurse practitioner, which almost no Denver therapy practice can offer online
Ketamine-assisted sessions and sandplay therapy happen in the office. Preparation and integration sessions around ketamine work can happen online.
In person some weeks, online others, same therapist always
This is where a local practice separates from an app. Your therapist has a room at one of our three offices. You can start in person, move online, and come back in whenever you want to, and you never repeat an intake or change clinicians.
Denver clients tend to settle into one of a few rhythms:
- Weekly online, with an in-person session once a month
- In person for EMDR or Brainspotting sessions, online for everything else
- In person from the start until the relationship is solid, then online
- Online by default, in person when something heavy comes up and you want to be in the room
Tell your therapist which you want that week. That’s the whole process.
How online therapy works at My Denver Therapy
- Reach out. Use our contact form or call (720) 504-4329. Tell us what you’re looking for and whether you want online, in person, or both.
- Get matched. We’ll pair you with a therapist whose specialty fits. Appointments are typically available within a week.
- Get the link. You’ll receive a secure, HIPAA-compliant video link before each session. There’s nothing to download.
- Show up. Find a private spot, check your connection, and log on. Your therapist handles the rest.
You’ll need a phone, tablet, or computer with a camera, a reasonably stable internet connection, and a place where you won’t be overheard. Headphones help in shared apartments.
Frequently asked questions
Is online therapy in Denver as effective as going to an office?
Yes, for the large majority of concerns people bring to therapy. Decades of research on video-based treatment for anxiety, depression, PTSD, and relationship problems show outcomes equal to in-person care. A few situations, like therapy for young children or ketamine-assisted sessions, are better suited to the office, and we’ll tell you if that applies to you.
Can I see a therapist online if I live in Denver but want to come in sometimes?
Yes. That’s the most common arrangement among our Denver clients. You keep the same therapist, switch formats whenever you need to, and nothing about the fee or the intake changes.
Do you take insurance for online therapy?
We’re an out-of-network practice. We provide superbills you can submit to your insurer for reimbursement, and we offer a sliding scale for clients who need it. Online and in-person sessions are billed identically.
Can I do EMDR online?
Yes. Our EMDR-trained therapists use screen-based bilateral stimulation and have been doing online EMDR since 2020. Many clients find it easier to process at home than in an unfamiliar room.
What if I’m traveling outside Colorado?
Colorado licenses cover sessions where you’re physically in Colorado. If you have a trip coming up, tell your therapist ahead of time and we’ll plan around it.
How do I get started?
Fill out the contact form or call (720) 504-4329. We’ll match you with a Denver therapist and get you scheduled, usually within the week.
Other Specialties
Healing may not be so much about getting better, as about letting go of everything that isn’t you – all of the expectations, all of the beliefs – and becoming who you are.
