Family Therapy in Highlands Ranch, CO

My Denver Therapy offers family therapy for Highlands Ranch families at two offices on the daily commute: Lone Tree, at Park Meadows just off C-470 and I-25, and Greenwood Village, on Arapahoe Road at I-25.

We help Highlands Ranch families

Our family therapists, including licensed marriage and family therapists, work with parents, children, teens, blended families, and adult children, in person or online, with first appointments usually available within a week.

Highlands Ranch was built for families, and that is exactly why family stress here can feel so isolating. Everyone on the cul-de-sac seems to have it together. Meanwhile your teenager has stopped talking, your middle schooler’s anxiety is running the household schedule, you and your spouse disagree about every rule, and the family calendar between Douglas County schools, club sports, and the rec center leaves no room for the conversation that needs to happen.

What family therapy addresses

Family therapy treats the family as a system. Instead of fixing one person, it changes the patterns between people, which is usually where the problem lives.

Parent-teen conflict. Slammed doors, grades slipping at ThunderRidge or Mountain Vista, screens, defiance, or a teen who has gone quiet. We work with the whole family and, when helpful, with the teen individually through teen therapy.

Child anxiety and behavior. When a younger child’s anxiety, meltdowns, or school refusal reorganize the family around them. We combine family sessions with child therapy, including sandplay.

Co-parenting and blended families. Step-parent roles, loyalty binds, two households with different rules. Family therapy gives everyone a place to say what is not working.

Parents who disagree. Different parenting philosophies, one strict and one permissive, resentment about who carries the load. Our parenting support therapists help couples parent as a team even when they do not see things the same way.

Adult children and aging parents. Family therapy is not only for young families. We work with adult children and their parents on estrangement, caregiving, and old conflicts that never got resolved.

Grief and transition. A death, a divorce, a move, a diagnosis. Families that face them together, with help, come through more intact. Grief counseling is available for the whole family or for individual members.

How we work with Highlands Ranch families

Our family therapists are trained in attachment-based family therapy, Emotionally Focused Family Therapy, Gottman-informed parenting work, and structural approaches. Sessions include the people the problem involves, which may mean the whole family some weeks and a parent or teen alone in others.

For families with a child or teen in acute distress, including self-harm or an eating concern, we coordinate individual therapy for the young person, family sessions, and medication management through our psychiatric nurse practitioner, all within one practice.

Two offices on your commute

Lone Tree: 9233 Park Meadows Dr, Suite 200. From Highlands Ranch, take C-470 east to Yosemite or Quebec, or Lincoln Avenue east to Park Meadows. Most families are here in under ten minutes, and the office sits near Park Meadows mall, so appointments fit between errands.

Greenwood Village: 9600 E Arapahoe Rd, Suite 220, on Arapahoe at I-25. If one parent commutes north to the Tech Center or downtown, this office is on the way, and after-work family sessions here avoid a trip back south.

Both locations have free parking. Many Highlands Ranch families alternate between offices depending on who is driving, and online sessions are available for weeks when nobody can.

Why Highlands Ranch families choose My Denver Therapy

We are one of Colorado’s largest therapist-owned practices, with 20+ licensed clinicians, including LMFTs trained specifically in family systems. That depth means a family with a struggling teen, a stressed marriage, and an anxious younger child can be seen by therapists who coordinate with each other.

We offer after-school and evening appointments, telehealth across Colorado, and specialized modalities, including EMDR and Brainspotting for trauma, sandplay for children, and DBT skills for teens. We are out-of-network and provide superbills, with sliding-scale rates for families who qualify. There are no intake or administrative fees.

Highlands Ranch families also come to us for postpartum support and trauma therapy at the same two offices.

Frequently asked questions

Do you have a therapist in Highlands Ranch?
Our Lone Tree office at 9233 Park Meadows Dr is under ten minutes from most of Highlands Ranch, and our Greenwood Village office on Arapahoe Road is on the northbound commute. We also offer family therapy online throughout Colorado.

Does everyone in the family have to attend?
No. Your therapist will recommend who attends which sessions. Many families alternate between full-family, parent-only, and individual sessions.

Can family therapy help if my teen refuses to go?
Yes. Parent-focused family therapy changes the patterns at home even when a teen will not participate, and teens often join once they see it is not about blaming them.

Do you work with blended families and co-parents after divorce?
Yes. We work with step-families and with co-parents in separate households, including sessions with both parents when that is appropriate.

Do you take insurance for family therapy?
We are out-of-network. We provide superbills for reimbursement and offer sliding-scale rates for families who qualify. Our insurance page explains how reimbursement works.

Healing may not be so much about getting better, as about letting go of everything that isn’t you – all of the expectations, all of the beliefs – and becoming who you are.
