At My Denver Therapy, we are proud to be one of the few therapy private practices in Denver that offers inclusive Christian counseling. While we are not a faith-based practice, many of our therapists come from a Christian background. Many clients come to us seeking adult therapy or couples counseling from someone who shares their faith, but we also support people who have experienced religious trauma or have been hurt by the church.
As part of the Denver therapist community, we have been surprised and disappointed to discover how many therapy private practices put politics, discriminatory practices, and prejudicial views above serving their clients, whatever their background may be—some even going as far as to turn away clients because of their background or identity.
To us, that stance seems to go directly against how Jesus would treat people, especially those in marginalized communities, so we do things differently to serve the diverse community of ethnicities, sexual orientations, socioeconomic backgrounds, and more living in the Denver area.
Inclusive therapy from trained Christian therapists
We know that people’s relationships with God and their journey with faith can be complicated, so we meet our clients where they are, no matter where they are in their journey in faith and life. We also respect that many Christians seeking therapy are just looking for someone who shares their background, but that they’re coming for therapy, not for a sermon or to feel like they’re being preached to. As therapists who happen to be Christian, we put you, your experiences, and what’s bringing you to therapy first. If you want to have your faith be a part of that experience, we’re happy to do that too.
In addition, our therapists are LGBTQ+ affirming, non-judgmental, and focused on you. In Colorado, there are many well-meaning biblical counselors at churches who don’t have any formal training as therapists, but all of our therapists went to graduate school so that they could make helping people their profession. There is a significant difference in seeing someone who has actual training in trauma therapy or couples therapy to provide therapy compared to seeing someone with a good heart who wants to help people.
Christian counseling can be accepting and inclusive
If you’ve been looking for a Christian therapist in Denver who accepts you, your background, and wants to listen to you in a non-judgmental way, we’re here to help. Seeing a therapist who understands your faith can provide a shared understanding that allows you to share, heal, and grow in ways that feel comfortable and accepting.
No matter who you are, whether you’ve had a perfect or not-so-perfect relationship with God, there is such thing as inclusive Christian counseling in Denver, and we’d love to help.
