Our therapists help men in Denver improve their lives and mental health.

Therapy for men in Denver

Men in our society often feel pressure to be stoic and in control all the time, but this can lead to a number of mental health problems, including depression and anxiety. If you’re a man in Denver struggling with your mental health, you’re not alone. Millions of men in the United States go to therapy every year for issues that also include stress, anger management, and even therapy when becoming a new parent.

At My Denver Therapy, we understand the unique challenges that men face in today’s society, and we know that men can be complex, and they’re often given a one-size-fits-all method to therapy. While men’s group therapy can be helpful for some men, it can be difficult to share your true experience compared to working with a therapist one on one. Our therapists for men and male therapists offer a safe and supportive space where you can explore your feelings, learn coping mechanisms, and develop a healthier relationship with yourself as a person and a man.

It’s no secret that the vast majority of therapists in the United States are women. Our team of Denver therapists includes John Hague, one of the most experienced and requested male therapists in Denver to work with men who’d prefer to see a male therapist. For men who’d prefer to see a female therapist, we can match you with one of our therapists in Denver, Greenwood Village or Lone Tree who specializes in what you’re looking for. Through therapy, our therapists help you:

If you’re a man in Denver who is struggling with your mental health, our therapists have helped thousands of men in the Denver area. It takes strength and courage to reach out for help, and our therapists will help you change your life in positive ways, all while respecting who you are.

How traditional masculinity affects men

Many men grow up learning that it’s unmanly to express their emotions, especially “softer” feelings like grief, sadness, and fear.

For men, expressing certain feelings can oftentimes be seen as indicators of weakness, instead of regular emotions. This can lead to a number of mental health problems, including depression, anxiety, and substance abuse. Men are more likely than women to use nearly all types of illicit drugs, and substance abuse is a common reason why men seek therapy.

Traditional masculinity emphasizes power, social status, and self-reliance over social connection and emotional expression. This can make it difficult for men in Denver to ask for help, even when they need it.

Men’s therapy can help you learn to understand and manage your emotions, build healthy relationships, and cope with stress and difficult life events and life changes.

Why men often avoid therapy

Men are far less likely than women to seek mental health care, even though they have higher suicide rates, misuse alcohol at greater rates, and are more likely to use illegal drugs.

Even as society is changing, this is often because of traditional ideas about masculinity, which can make mental health issues seem like a character deficit or a sign of weakness.

However, therapy for men can be incredibly beneficial. It can help men to understand and manage their emotions, build healthy relationships, cope with stress, heal from trauma, and improve their overall well-being.

If you’re a man who is struggling with your mental health, our Denver therapists for men can help and there is no shame in asking for it. Our therapists can help you to find the best way to address your specific needs.

How men can benefit from therapy

Here are some of the unique benefits of therapy for men:

  • Increased earnings: A 2017 study found that men who go to therapy experience a 12% rise in income. This increase continues, even after stopping therapy.
  • Improved relationships: Through individual therapy, you get to know yourself better. When you know yourself, it becomes easier to communicate with your friends and loved ones.
  • Empowerment: Therapy for men can help you develop decision-making skills and resilience to feel confident as you build your life. You’ll learn how to make healthier choices and manage disappointments.
  • Improved health: Therapy can help you learn strategies for managing stress and life changes. Taking time for your mental health  can help you manage physical health issues as well.

Healing may not be so much about getting better, as about letting go of everything that isn’t you – all of the expectations, all of the beliefs – and becoming who you are.

Meet our therapists

My Denver Therapy is one of the largest woman-owned therapy private practices in Colorado with many of the best, most requested mental health therapists in the Denver Metro area.

As a therapist-owned practice with decades of combined experience, we care about seeing our clients heal, grow, and thrive. We’re one of the only therapy practices in Colorado with licensed professional counselors, marriage and family therapists, addiction counselors, social workers, and psychiatric nurse practitioners who actively see new clients. Whether you’re an adult, teen, young adult, couple, or family, our inclusive therapist team is built to specialize in you.

Our practice started with one therapist in a shared office suite, but we’ve grown to help thousands of people in Colorado by providing in-person therapy at our conveniently located Denver Metro area counseling offices in Denver, Greenwood Village, and Lone Tree, plus online therapy for clients throughout Colorado. Because of the way our team works, our therapists also provide consultation for other therapists and private practices in the Denver Metro area.

Our inclusive therapists provide some of the most innovative, effective, and in-demand forms of therapy available today, including EMDR, Ketamine-assisted psychotherapy, CBT, and IFS. We also have more therapists trained in Ketamine-assisted therapy, EMDR, and more teen therapists and young adult counselors than nearly every other private practice in Denver.

We know that clients want to find the best therapists in Denver, so our team includes therapists with different backgrounds, specialities, and experiences to help you find the right fit. We’ll match you with one of our therapists who is the best for your goals, location, budget, and schedule to help you get started quickly.

We’re out of network for insurance, Tricare, and are unable to take Medicaid, but most of our therapists’ rates are lower than the local and national averages for therapy.

All of our therapists take a client-focused approach to counseling and approach each session with  a commitment to your progress and growth.
