Why your teen should see a therapist

Most people think that only adults see therapists, but that’s not true at all. The reality is that teens can benefit from therapy just as much as adults can.

In fact, statistics have shown that one in five teenagers suffers from a mental health disorder. If you or your teen is considering therapy while reading this article, you’re not alone. The reality is that there are many, many people like you.

There are many reasons why therapy can be good for teenagers. Here are just a few:

  1. It can help teens learn how to cope with stress and anxiety: There are times when life can be really tough and overwhelming, and it’s not always easy to know how to deal with everything that’s going on, especially with school, friends, and other relationships. With therapy, teens can learn skills that help them cope with whatever happen in their lives.
  2. Therapy can help teens work through trauma that you’ve experienced: Whether the trauma is something that happened recently or something that happened a long time ago, trauma therapy can help you process those events and start to heal in productive ways that last.
  3. Therapy can provide a safe, supportive space to talk about whatever is on your mind with someone you trust: Even if you have close friends and family, it can be really helpful to have someone to talk to who won’t judge you or tell you what to do. Sometimes just talking about what’s going on in your life without judgement can be a huge relief.

If you’re a teenager who is struggling and considering therapy, please know that there is help available, and you’re not alone. By seeing a therapist, you can learn valuable skills that can help you cope with all of the changes and challenges happening in your life.
