Ketamine-assisted therapy
(KAP) in Denver

An alternative, transformative way to create lasting change.

What is Ketamine-assisted psychotherapy?

When you’ve already tried different types of therapy, but you still feel like you haven’t been able to heal from the trauma you came to therapy for, Ketamine-assisted therapy (also known as Ketamine-assisted psychotherapy or KAP) is a new, science-backed, alternative, and safe way to create lasting change and healing in transformative ways. Because it’s been approved by the FDA, it’s available throughout the United States and services like Mindbloom also offer at-home Ketamine therapy for people who live in rural areas or don’t have a therapist near them who is trained in it.

As the only legal psychedelic medicine available to mental health providers for the treatment of emotional suffering (MDMA-assisted therapy is in clinical trials and psilocybin-assisted therapy is further away), it has proven to help people with treatment-resistant mental health conditions that include depression, anxiety, PTSD, personal injury trauma, and traumaIt’s quickly growing as a treatment option in the United States, and these types of treatments were recently featured on a new Netflix documentary called How to Change Your Mind

Ketamine-assisted therapy is legal in Colorado with a prescription, approved by the FDA for therapy, and helps your mind heal in ways that can go far beyond traditional therapy. After just one session, research has shown that about 50% of patients with treatment-resistant depression have a reduction in symptoms within 24 hours. About 66% have a reduction in symptoms after the 4th session. It is currently one of, if not the most, promising tools for treating medication-resistant mental health issues. More recently, in a year-long study of over 400 patients, researchers found that 72% of patients saw improvements in their mood after using Ketamine.

When you start Ketamine-assisted psychotherapy in Denver with our trained therapists in Lone Tree, Greenwood Village, or Frnbrt, you’ll know what to expect, how it works, and feel completely supported and prepared before, during, and after your sessions. It’s not about just taking the medicine; we know it’s about working with the medicine to create lasting results with any kind of psychedelic-assisted therapy. Many clients say that online Ketamine therapy services like Mindbloom are helpful, but working with a therapist helps the improvements and changes stick.

We take a holistic, person-focused, and compassionate approach to therapy while Ketamine helps you explore and dive deeper into your mind within the safe, confidential environment of your therapist’s office. While some therapists require you to find a separate doctor or psychiatrist to get a prescription, we connect you with qualified medical professionals that work with you to help make sure it’s safe and appropriate for your individual situation.

How Ketamine can change your mind

Ketamine-assisted therapy is one of many new, highly effective ways to help people improve their mental health. These types of therapy methods are becoming more popular and mainstream every day in the United States.

If you’re interested in learning more about it, Netflix’s “How to Change Your Mind” goes into how these types of therapy can change your mind, and change your life.

How does Ketamine work in therapy?

With Ketamine-assisted therapy, we combine the use of ketamine with talk therapy. Ketamine can help you find a unique feeling of separation from your typical thought processes. Some people describe a feeling of being able to see yourself in the third person, or having an out-of-body state of consciousness.

When it comes to your mental health, people can often get overwhelmed or swept up by negative thoughts that won’t go away. By adding Ketamine to therapy, you can take a step back and see things more clearly from a completely different perspective.

While there are Ketamine infusion clinics in Colorado that don’t include therapy as part of the treatment method, just using Ketamine in low doses often isn’t enough to create lasting changes. To maximize the use of Ketamine as medicine, adding therapy to your treatment plan gives you a new sense of awareness to discuss what you’ve gone through, thinking habits, and more.

The insights you discover from your sessions can be then incorporated into your everyday life so that you can actively take steps to improve your mental health.

How much does Ketamine-assisted therapy cost?

As you’ve likely seen if you’ve done some research online, it can seem expensive to start Ketamine-assisted psychotherapy, but that’s only part of the story. Online Ketamine therapy options like Mindbloom provide more affordable options, but it’s a different experience from in-person therapy.

Without Ketamine-assisted therapy, a person with treatment-resistant depression can spend over $10,000 per year on health costs, therapy, and more. For treatment-resistant conditions, this cost can feel like a recurring cost that doesn’t go away, even when it’s spent in smaller amounts at a time. With Ketamine-assisted therapy, many people end up having far fewer sessions and faster results compared to traditional talk therapy.

One of the biggest reasons why people try Ketamine therapy is the relief it can provide in just a few sessions, which helps them stop using expensive medications or needing regular therapy because of how it helps them work on the underlying causes of depression. Many of our clients have told us that they feel like they’ve accomplished more in a few Ketamine sessions compared to years of therapy.

Many therapy offices in Denver charge $1,000 or more for each Ketamine-assisted psychotherapy session, or ask you to commit to a therapy package costing over $4,000 for a set number of sessions (usually 4 or more), which doesn’t adjust based on your actual progress. Other therapy offices don’t list their rates because they’re even more expensive.

Our rates for Ketamine-assisted psychotherapy are among the lowest in Colorado. We want you to understand how much Ketamine-assisted therapy actually costs, so here’s a breakdown:

  • Before you start Ketamine-assisted therapy, sessions with our therapists use our standard rates for therapy.
  • When you meet with a medical provider to get a prescription, you can expect to pay around $250 for the first appointment and $150 for future appointments. We have an in-house psychiatric nurse practitioner who can help you get an appointment faster than with most psychiatrists in Denver.
  • If you’re approved for Ketamine-assisted therapy, a prescription typically is around $70.
  • Because Ketamine-assisted therapy sessions are about 2 to 3 hours long, they cost $500 per session. This amount is about 50% lower than other Ketamine-assisted psychotherapy rates in Denver.

We don’t require a certain number of Ketamine-assisted sessions. Most clients should expect to have at least 2 sessions as part of their treatment plan, but recent studies recommend 8-12 sessions for lasting results. We can work with you to space out your appointments in ways that work with your schedule and budget. While we are out of network for insurance, we haven’t seen any insurance providers cover Ketamine-assisted psychotherapy.

Where to get Ketamine-assisted therapy in Denver?

At My Denver Therapy, we believe that ketamine-assisted therapy goes far behind the medicine itself, and that the individual experience you have with it can be a critical part of your healing process.

In our three Denver area offices (Denver, Lone Tree, Greenwood Village), we combine your Ketamine-assisted therapy with talk therapy under the supervision of dedicated medical and mental health professionals.

When you combine the effects of Ketamine with talk therapy, you can use the clear and aware state that you’re in to talk about your concerns, patterns, and other things that are and have been on your mind. Many people are able to unlock feelings and emotions that they haven’t been able to access or experience due to trauma, and this opens the door to them being able to heal.

You’ll find new ways to incorporate the things you’ve learned into your daily life, and the experience of Ketamine-assisted therapy can help you take steps towards improving your mental health

Remote and affordable Ketamine assisted therapy

While we typically provide Ketamine-assisted therapy in our Denver, Lone Tree, and Greenwood Village offices, there are popular remote and teletherapy Ketamine therapy options. One of the most reputable and affordable options for Ketamine therapy is Mindbloom.

At-home Ketamine therapy services like Mindbloom can be excellent options for people who live in rural areas or who don’t have any therapists who provide Ketamine-assisted therapy near them. Even if you live in Colorado, you might find that it’s more convenient for you to experience Ketamine therapy at home, especially if getting to a therapist’s office for a 2 to 3 hour session doesn’t work for your schedule.

Ketamine-assisted therapy requires a prescription from a doctor or authorized medical provider, like a psychiatrist. We can connect you with qualified professionals so you won’t have to do all the legwork yourself.

We partner with medical professionals who can determine your eligibility for a prescription and help provide one if you qualify, but you may already be seeing someone who can prescribe it for you (which is also fine!).

Who is Ketamine-assisted therapy for?

Ketamine-assisted therapy is most commonly used for people with depression. Because it works differently from antidepressants, it can be an option for people who haven’t found success with other medications or talk therapy alone.

It has been shown to work quickly and create sustainable, transformative results. Studies have shown that Ketamine-assisted therapy is effective in treating trauma, PTSD, anxiety, depression, OCD, chronic pain, and more, and many have shown that it’s the most effective way to treat many issues.

Within 72 hours of taking Ketamine, scientists have found that neural pathways can be restored, which can rewire the way your brain experiences the world. Many people see an almost immediate improvement in their symptoms in just hours or days after their session. However, it usually takes a few sessions to see long-term results “stick” in your behaviors and thoughts.

Some medical or psychological issues, including a history of hallucinations, mania, cardiovascular issues, hyperthyroidism, and other issues, may make someone ineligible for Ketamine-assisted therapy.

Ketamine-assisted therapy vs. Ketamine infusions or injections

Unlike infusions or injections, we combine Ketamine with our expertise as therapists to create sustained, impactful, lasting change in your mind and life.

Our therapists act as guides during your Ketamine experience and show you how your session connects to your day-to-day life. When you’re having mental health challenges, you can often get caught up in negative thoughts. With Ketamine, you may be able to find clarity in ways that you otherwise wouldn’t.

Is Ketamine a psychedelic form of therapy?

In low doses, Ketamine shouldn’t cause psychedelic effects. In moderate amounts, it can have psychedelic properties that may help people see situations from a new perspective. This can create new or different perspectives on meaning and purpose.

Having a psychedelic experience can be very valuable in a therapeutic setting when you have a mental health professional to help facilitate and guide you through the process. Ketamine can help you find a sense of separation from not only your own thoughts, but your thought processes.

Does insurance cover Ketamine therapy?

We are out-of-network providers for PPO insurance plans. While we aren’t in-network with any insurance companies, TRICARE, or able to see clients on Medicaid, this can provide flexibility because your treatments don’t require authorization from an insurance provider.

Also, insurance providers often determine how many sessions are covered for your treatment, regardless of how you feel or what you need.

Because most people have multiple sessions of Ketamine-assisted therapy, removing insurance companies from the process can actually help you get help faster and more efficiently.

Healing may not be so much about getting better, as about letting go of everything that isn’t you – all of the expectations, all of the beliefs – and becoming who you are.
